This is the most powerful and advanced Polilieht raleased to date. Building on the successful PL500 series of forensic light sources, Rofin Australia has improved and added new features to make this undeniably the most desirable light source yet. Improvements has been made in all aspects of the alternate light source. A new user interface had been designed for intuitive and direct control of all the main functions using 3 dials.
 
A boost mode is available for short periods of time for when extra power is needed. The new variable speed fans are now computer controlled to rotate at optimum speeds. This means a more quiet and pleasant work environment for the forensic investigator. Three memory buttons are available to store your favourite settings and recall them automatically.
 
Direct control of all essential functions
 
A completely new user interface is introduced in the new PL550XL. All controls are easily accessible through 3 rotary dials. The main dial is used to select the wavelength which can be used to step through the bands or rotated to jump from one band to another.
Two smaller dials allow power and tuning setting to be selected. All three parameters can be read on large LED displays.

The PL550XL comes standard with 13 bands including the new Rupul Band for the enhancement of Ruhemann's purple coloured nindydrin prints.

The Polilight PL500 is a high-intensity light source based on a 500 Watt xenon arc lamp. This type of lamp delivers UV, visible, and infrared light. A special characteristic of the light output in the visible region is that the intensity of light is the same in the whole spectrum, just like sun light. This is in contrast with halogen lamps that deliver progressively more light, going from blue (low wavelength) to red (high wavelength).
 
Apart from white light, the Polilight PL500 has 12 selectable wavebands (from UV to red light). With filter tuning, any narrow band of light (with width of about 40 nm) in the visible spectrum can be selected.
 
The waveband is selected either by using the buttons on the front panel, or stepwise with the remote control (2 m-long cable). The filter selection and fine tuning are operated internally by stepper motors. The remote control is attached to the unit through a RS232 port.
 
This port can also be used for operating the PL500 from a computer (using optionally available software). Also available is a security code option that uses the filter selection buttons. This option will prevent unauthorized persons from switching on the instrument.
 
With the remote control or the buttons on the front panel, the light power can also be tuned (8 settings, from about 15 to 100% in equal increments).

The Polilight®PL400 is a state-of-the-art forensic light source, designed for robust operation at the crime scene or within the laboratory. Its design is built upon the earlier highly successful Polilight® models PL6, PL10 and the top of the range PL500. The cost effective PL400 fills the gap between the top of the range PL500 series Polilights and the hand-held light sources.
 
The Polilight PL400 is available in three versions. The PL400 BlueScan emits bands of light in UV, violet and blue and is the recommended version to be used in environments where is searched for biological traces only.
 
The PL400 Forensic unit is fitted with additional filters which are commonly used on the crime scene.
 
The top of the PL400 range of light sources is the PL400 Forensic Plus. 19 bands of light can be selected, from UV up to 650 nm. This unit is use on the crime scene and in the laboratory.
