Casting shoeprints

Foot- and tireprint casting kit

This Footprint Investigation kit has been especially composed for the fixing and casting of tire- and footprints found in sand and mud. Apart from the usual tools and plaster, the kit is provided with a special fixative in aerosol form for fixing the surface of the impresssions. A release agent is included to facilitate loosening of the casted imprint. A photo ruler, clearly readable against all surfaces, is an important aid in photographing the impression

Plaster of Paris

Plaster of Paris for shoe impressions, white, extra hard. Package of either 800 or1000 g in a polyethylene mixing bag. The mixing bag is additonally stored in a pouch made of laminate material for prolonged storage (preventing the plaster of attracking moisture).

SLM release agent

Silicone-based release agent.

Unifix 16

Unifix will penetrate the porous structure of soil and sand to fix them, moist or not. The surface of the impression will be sealed and impenetrable for the plaster after preparation with Unifix.

Universal sprayer

Universal sprayer, consists of a glass reservoir (180 ml) and a replaceable pressure unit with a non-CFC propellant.

Casting frame metal

Metal casting frame, extendable from 21 to 40 cm. The width is 14 cm. White, powder coated aluminium.

Mixing bowl/sieve

To mix plaster with water a plaster-mixing bowl is useful. When the bowl cannot be cleaned immediatly, the plaster can be broken loose from the bowl once the plaster has hardened, by kneading/deforming the rubber bowl (1.9 liter when filled to the rim).
To avoid lumps in the plaster a sieve can be used when the plaster powder is transfered to the mixing bowl.
Also used when underwater-casting a shoe impression in very shallow water (like puddles.)

Contrast powder for impressions in snow

Latent Black and Latent Silver were originally developed for developing fingerprints. The powder is applied to the surface from an aerosol spray can. The same powder can also be applied to a shoe or tire impression in snow. The powder helps to improve the contrast of the impression.
